'Coppelia' Ballet To Debut At Irvine's Maple Conservatory
STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Maple Conservatory Director Charles Maple and dancers Bryn Watkins and Beau Fisher visited KCAL9 Monday to talk about the upcoming production of Coppelia at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
The comedic ballet features dancers from the American Ballet Theatre and the Maple Conservatory, which is one of the top-rated schools in Southern California. Many of its dancers go on to dance with National ballet companies.
Coppelia is a timeless classic from ETA Hoffman, the same artist who created "The Nutcracker". The ballet is about a doll named Coppelia that mysteriously comes to life – and creates a three-way lovers' quarrel between an engaged couple, and a jealous toymaker who created her.
