Los Angeles County deputies investigating deadly Compton hit-and-run

Los Angeles County deputies are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened in Compton on Wednesday night. 

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. near N. Alameda Street and E. Dixon Street, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. 

Deputies said that they arrived and found the victim, who was later identified as 56-year-old Jose Navarette, by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, in the street. Despite life-saving efforts from Compton Fire Department firefighters, he was declared dead at the scene, the release said. 

No information was available on the driver or vehicle involved in the collision.
