Cold Snap Continues In Southern California
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Cool and windy conditions will continue to grip the Southland this week, meteorologists said Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, a frost advisory will remain in effect until 9 a.m. for the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Santa Clarita Valleys.
A more serious freeze warning will be enforced to the north in Ventura County.
Forecasters said a cold air mass continues to lurk behind a weak weather system, which is bringing gusty winds to areas across the Southland.
A wind advisory will remain in effect until noon for the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains, along with the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.
Gusts could reach between 20 to 30 mph in these areas, making it difficult to drive for trucks and other high-profile vehicles.
Meanwhile, due to frigid temperatures, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health has extended a cold weather alert through Friday.
Extra attention should be paid to children, the elderly and those with disabilities or special medical needs.
The use of barbeques, stoves or ovens to heat homes should not be used due to the risk of carbon monoxide.
Pets, farm animals and plants should be brought indoors.
Temperatures are unlikely to rise above the low 60s today under sunny skies.
