GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — Because of mandatory evacuations prompted by the Colby Fire in Glendora, authorities have opened several shelters for both humans and animals and announced several school closures.
The fast-moving Colby Fire has forced the evacuation of 3,700 residents, destroyed five homes and damaged 17 more structures after erupting early Thursday morning.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for all residents north of Sierra Boulevard, between west of Glendora Mountain Road and east of Highway 39. Evacuation orders in Glendora have been lifted, and those residents are now being allowed to return back to their homes, although Highway 39 remains closed to traffic.
Evacuation orders affecting 880 structures and between 1,700 and 2,000 people remain in place in Azusa, police say.
