City Council Delays Vote On Urban Bee Keeping Proposal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles City Council Tuesday delayed a vote regarding a proposal that would allow homeowners to keep beehives in their backyards.

The council will now vote next month on a measure that would overturn a ban on beekeeping in residential areas.

The proposal is backed by Jose Huizar, chair of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee.

Supporters hope to foster a healthier bee population, which would produce honey and wax and pollinate gardens in the city.
