Charges Filed Against 3 Suspects In Alleged Kidnapping, Assault Of Long Beach Man
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities announced Wednesday that charges were filed against three men who allegedly kidnapped, robbed and tortured a man.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were sent around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 to a bank, located in the 5700 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, to investigate a possible crime.
A preliminary investigation revealed a victim, identified as a 22-year-old Long Beach man, was kidnapped, assaulted, tortured and robbed at a home by several suspects.
Officers learned Patrick Adams, 20, of Long Beach, knew the victim socially, and arranged to meet him at his home located in the 4700 block of Malta Street.
When the victim arrived, Adams and two other suspects allegedly tied him up and assaulted him with blunt force instruments, police said.
According to police, at some point during the assault, one of the suspects took the victim's car, drove to his apartment, and stole items from the home.
During the assault and torture, the suspects proceeded to demand money from the victim.
Adams is accused of taking him to a bank to withdraw money, however, the victim was able to notify the bank to call police. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
When officials learned of Adams' involvement, he was immediately taken into custody.
On Feb. 23, Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies located the stolen vehicle in Dana Point, and subsequently arrested the driver, identified as Eric Riddle-Rios, 23, of Anaheim.
Further investigation revealed a third suspect was involved in the incident.
On Friday, detectives arrested Ryan Scott Urban, 21, at his home located in the 16000 block of Santa Cristobal Street in San Diego.
All three men were booked into the Los Angeles County Men's Jail, and were charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Adams is being held on $2.28 million, and was charged torture, kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment, and kidnapping to commit a robbery.
Riddle-Rios was charged with torture, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, false imprisonment, and is being held on $1.34 million.
Urban is being held on $2.23 million, and was charged with torture, kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and kidnapping to commit a robbery.
