Calif. Voters Wary Of Palin; Whitman Unscathed?

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) — A pair of recent barometers of the attitudes of California voters shows that many of them may not hold Sarah Palin in high regard,  nor do most view the illegal immigration allegations against Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman as particularly damaging.

The Field Poll survey, released Wednesday, found that 58 percent of registered voters have an unfavorable view of the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, compared to 33 percent who hold a favorable view.

Democrats hold an overwhelmingly unfavorable view of Palin, and two-thirds of independent voters said they would be less inclined to support a Palin-backed candidate.

Two-thirds of Republicans hold a favorable view.

Palin has endorsed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, who is challenging Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer.

Meanwhile, the findings of a recent Reuters-IPSOS poll shows that despite the recent headlines about allegedly hiring an illegal immigrant have done little to change voters' perception of the former eBay chief.
