5-Acre Fire Contained Near Jet Propulsion Lab

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (AP) — Firefighters have doused a small brush fire behind the Jet Propulsion Laboratory northeast of Los Angeles. No building damage or injuries are reported.

Los Angeles County fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson says the five-acre blaze was knocked down shortly before 2 p.m. The battle lasted about 90 minutes.

About 115 firefighters aided by three helicopters fought the flames. Johnson says they managed to stop the fire on a chaparral-dotted ridge north of the JPL campus.

He says the fire's spread was hampered by relatively humid weather and the effects of a recent rain storm.

The NASA facility was not evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
