Firefighters Gain Handle On Brush Fire Near Dallas Cowboys Training Camp In Oxnard

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters gained a handle Tuesday on a brush fire near the Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, authorities said.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. at the bottom of the Santa Clara River south of the 101 Freeway near the Johnson Drive exit, according to Ventura County Fire.

About 50 personnel were on scene, officials said.

Smoke from the fire was seen over the Cowboys camp, but was burning away from the location by 3 p.m., according to authorities.

The fire was up to about 8.2 acres and roughly 50 percent contained around 3:20 p.m., officials said.

The training camp was not evacuated nor was it in any immediate danger.
