Crews battle greater alarm Beverly Crest house fire

Los Angeles Fire Department crews are battling flames at a four-story home in Beverly Crest, north of Sunset Boulevard.

The house fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. in the 300 block of N. Delfern Drive. Originally, 100 firefighters were at the scene of the "greater alarm incident," and by about 4 p.m., about 150 firefighters were there, with "major emergency status," declared by LAFD.

Crews initially observed light smoke on the second floor of the four-story, 24,000 square-foot home. Aerial footage showed firefighters tackling the blaze with hoses, standing on the roof. "Firefighters continue to battle multiple areas of fire in the attic," LAFD said nearly two hours after the fire broke out.

"We currently are in the offensive mode, which means fire companies have pulled off hand lines and they are currently up in that attic, trying to locate the seed of that fire and extinguish it as we speak," LAFD Capt. Anthony Tubbs said. 

"A 24,000 square foot home is about the size of a commercial building. That's going to require a lot of manpower. It's going to require a lot of labor, time-consuming and it requires a lot of handlines and a lot of coordination."

All occupants and workers on the property are accounted for and safe, according to LAFD. One firefighter suffered some sort of injury while battling the blaze and was taken to a nearby hospital in fair to serious condition, LAFD officials said.
