This art fair is the culmination of the McGroarty Arts Center's 2013 exhibition, "Bite Me." As spring signals a new growing season, the exhibition's theme seeks to bring out the serious issue of what place food takes in our culture. Economics, politics and society impact our view of nutrition. For socializing, sustenance or personal comfort, the artists' work will evoke a level of understanding not available in mainstream media. Food is a necessity of life, but this exposition looks beyond the obvious.

Fritz Haeg of Los Angeles brings in the spring with edible herbs fresh from his own garden at the Hammer. Many of his herbs to be shared are medicinal. The center of artistic expression is interactive crochet as art. Visitors and volunteers add to the Domestic Integrities rug that has traveled the world bringing out local attributes of landscape, ritual and seasonal change (www.domesticintegrities.org). Creativity in expression is a goal with this simple yet extraordinary experience. It's an existential exercise for individuals to make sense of their world and share it with others.

Thursday night, April 18, the La Habra Spring Citrus Fair kicks off with the Bubble Parade at 6 p.m. Then it's two days and four nights of traditional street fair events fit for children and adults alike. Vendors line three blocks of the downtown, selling everything from specialty foods to souvenirs on East La Habra between Euclid and Cypress. More than 25 rides and several entertainments round out every day and evening.
