Anaheim man shot by police after allegedly violating a protective order and attacking officers

Anaheim police shot a 33-year-old man after he allegedly violated a protection order and attacked officers on Monday. 

After being released from the hospital, the Orange County District Attorney charged James Brasher with several felonies: two counts of assault with a weapon on a peace officer, two counts of resisting arrest and one count of criminal threats. He also faces a misdemeanor count of violating a protective order, according to the City News Service. 

The shooting happened Monday night in the 700 block of W. Santa Ana Street after some called police to report a domestic disturbance. 

When officers arrived, Brasher got into a confrontation with them before police shot him twice. Investigators said Brasher, a parolee, had a no-bail warrant for his arrest and was considered armed and dangerous. 

In 2022, Brasher pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors: corporal injury on a cohabitant, brandishing a weapon and criminal threats. As a result, Brasher was sentenced to three years of probation, ordered to do eight hours of community service and to participate in a treatment program for batterers, according to the City News Service.

Brasher also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of violating a protective or stay-away order three times between 2022 and 2023.
