LAPD Officer Hurt In Line Of Duty Leaves Hospital
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A veteran Los Angeles police officer has been released from the hospital nearly three weeks after he was shot in the face during a siege at a San Fernando Valley home.
Police say in a statement that Officer Steven Jenkins -- a 22-year veteran of the department's K-9 Unit -- was released Saturday in time to spend Easter with his family. Jenkins' wife Beth Jenkins is an LAPD sergeant and his son is also a police officer.
Police say Steven Jenkins was shot in the jaw and shoulder during a standoff with 53-year-old domestic violence suspect Sergio Salazar, who was later found dead in the home in Sylmar.
Jenkins underwent several surgeries at Holy Cross Medical Center and USC University Hospital, and his jaw remains wired shut.
Tune into CBS2 News at 11 p.m. Monday for an exclusive interview with Jenkins' wife and son.
