3 Southern California Hikers Rescued After Getting Stuck In Rain

JAMUL (AP) — Three hikers had to be rescued in San Diego County after one of them fell on his head and rain trapped the group on the side of a mountain.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department says rescuers were unable to use helicopters to retrieve the men from Sloan Canyon on Saturday. Eventually, rescuers were able to help them down using ropes and pulleys.

The last hiker was brought to safety around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

All three men, who are between 19 and 22 years old, refused medical attention. The man who fell had a cut on his hand and a head injury.

The sheriff's department says the men are frequent visitors to the area and have never had a problem. The agency blamed the rain for why the men became trapped.
