3 Arrested In Connection With Beating Of Homeless Man, 55

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 38-year-old parolee was arrested in connection with the beating and robbery of a 55-year-old homeless man in a South Los Angeles park.

Ernest Jackson Jr. was arrested Thursday at Colonel Leon H. Washington Park where the alleged attack occurred last month, said Paul Schrader of the Sheriff's Parks Bureau.

According to deputies, the homeless victim was severely beaten and "robbed of a few dollars and a small radio," Schrader said. The man spent two weeks in an intensive care unit and was released from the hospital Thursday.

Two other suspects, believed to be homeless, were arrested Wednesday and booked for attempted murder, Schrader said. They were identified by authorities as 27-year-old Onesi Reyes and 31-year-old Richard Johnson.

Reyes and Johnson were taken to Century Regional Detention Facility where they are each being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Jackson is being held without bail.
