21-Year-Old Driver Dead After Car Slams Into Side Of Norwalk Building
NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 21-year-old driver was killed after crashing his vehicle into the side of a building in Norwalk.
The deadly accident unfolded just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 13600 block of Funston Avenue, and left a passenger in critical condition.
That person had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters using the jaws of life, and was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation but authorities believe speed was a factor.
"High speed is probably going to be our main factor, and the possibility of marijuana intoxication, but we have to wait for toxicology tests for that," said Det. Carl Anna of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The detective said the vehicle was likely traveling at a speed of at least 60-65 mph.
He also indicated that the driver was not wearing a seat-belt, while the passenger was.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
