Officials: 2-Year-Old Girl Drinks Grandmother's Unattended Methamphetamine-Laced Tea
GARNER VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 51-year-old woman was behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of child endangerment after she allegedly left a cup of methamphetamine-laced tea unattended, officials reported.
Cynthia Watson, of Aloha, Ore., is accused of putting methamphetamine in her tea while staying with her granddaughter's family.
At some point that night, the 2-year-old managed to get a hold of the unattended laced tea, and drank some of its contents.
Around 10 a.m. Monday morning, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to a child endangerment call in the 31000 block of Pine Street.
The caller claimed she tried to put her daughter to bed the previous night, but she would not fall asleep.
"Her daughter was talking rapidly, scratching her skin, could not sit still, and was very agitated," a sheriff's statement said. "The examination revealed the child tested positive for methamphetamine."
Watson was taken into custody Monday after the 2-year-old was treated at a hospital, authorities said.
She was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and is being held on $35,000 bail for suspicion of felony child endangerment and possession of methamphetamine.
The child is expected to make a full recovery, and was released from the medical facility where she received treatment.
