2 Get Life In Prison For Killing Baby In L.A. Park

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two gang members who fatally shot an infant and wounded a street vendor near a Los Angeles park have been sentenced to life in prison.

Juan Pablo Murillo and Guadalupe Torres Rangel were ordered Friday to serve time without the possibility of parole.

The two were convicted of opening fire near MacArthur Park in September 2007 to retaliate against the vendor, who refused to pay a weekly tax to their gang.

The vendor was shot four times but survived. The 3-week-old baby was in a stroller near the vendor when he was hit by a stray bullet.

Two others convicted in the shooting were sentenced to 11 and 13 years in prison. The fifth and sixth defendants are scheduled to be sentenced in the coming weeks.
