17 Treated After Pepper Spray Used To Disrupt Fight At Fremont High School

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A fight Thursday at Fremont High School resulted in a couple of minor injuries and the treatment of as many as 17 people after a school police officer used pepper spray to quell the altercation, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 11:30 a.m. to the campus at 7676 S. San Pedro St. for what school police described as a "a couple of spontaneous altercations between students".

"In an effort to quickly end the fights and to prevent further safety concerns or injuries, an officer used pepper spray on those involved in the altercations," said Los Angeles School Police Chief Steven Zipperman.

All students affected by the spray were evaluated onsite by medical personnel, Zipperman said.

After parents were notified, the school resumed normal operations afterward, according to Zipperman.

The incident may have involved a female ROTC student and other females, according to at least one report from the scene.
