Detectives shoot and kill armed robbery suspect at Los Angeles County shopping center
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department killed an armed robbery suspect at a West Hills shopping center Thursday night.
LASD said the detectives were conducting a surveillance operation tied to recent robberies in Calabasas and Westlake Village when they witnessed the suspect try to rob a woman at the Fallbrook Center. The detectives said they tried to detain the suspect before opening fire.
LASD Lt. Steve De Jong said deputies found a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine at the scene.
Immediately after the shooting, a second suspect fled the scene and led deputies on a brief pursuit. LASD said deputies detained her in Agoura Hills.
About a week after the shooting, deputies confirmed that the suspects were tied to the recent armed robberies in Calabasas and Westlake Village.
Investigators have not released the suspects' identities yet. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said the suspect killed in the robbery was in his teens.
