RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — A wrong-way driver was dead Wednesday after his vehicle collided head-on with a big rig on the I-15 in the Inland Empire.
The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. near Baseline Road in Rancho Cucamonga, the California Highway Patrol said.
A Toyota Prius slammed into the northbound truck and went under the semi, bursting into flames.
"The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department is conducting a death investigation to determine if this was an intentional act or if it was simply an error on the part of the driver who misunderstood the directions," San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Cindy Bachman said.
The crash shutdown the two, three and four lanes, prompting the CHP to issue a SigAlert. All lanes reopened around 10:45 a.m.
