Weird Weekend Web - 12/18/10

Stupid dog tricks on parade, a super-defiant California BASE jumper, snowman murder, kung fu accident evasion, and ancient technology via LEGO... just a few of the strange and bizarre things the web has offered up recently.

Dog Days:
We could link you up to every single "funny dog trick" video on YouTube, or we could link you to the video that compiles it all for us. It's a win-win for everyone... just as long as no cat-lovers are watching alongside with you.

BASE-ic Instinct:
You're already busted. The police have caught you red-handed preparing to BASE jump off the Bixby Bridge near Carmel: Do you give up quietly, or do you realize you have a friggin parachute on your back and jump off the bridge to get away? If you want to live in YouTube infamy, you pick option number 2. You won't get away, but the video will be far more entertaining.

Death Of A Snowman:
This video actually became news. Widely disseminated news, for some reason. A Chicago-area group of dudes built a snowman in the middle of an icy road and videotaped perplexed drivers slowly driving around it. Then, an unamused bus driver came along:

Crouching Motorcycle, Cartwheel Landing:
If anyone is likely to survive a t-bone collision with a pickup truck while riding a dinky little scooter traveling at about 30 MPH, someone with a mystical level of kung fu skills is probably at the top of the list. This video doesn't show it, but I like to think two doves flew away in the background while the driver landed in slow motion:

WhodidaWHAT Mechanism?
Long ago, the Greek civilization built a fantastically precise device that modern technology has only just decoded: The Antikythera Mechanism was a device -- an ancient computer -- built to chart astronomical positions. An Apple engineer must have been furious that the guys from 300 beat Steve Jobs to the punch by a few millenia, so he built one of his own -- out of Legos.
