Weird Weekend Web - 12/12/10

Marriage under gunfire, deadly sugary treats, bat-wielding pandas, the collision of cute animal and inanimate object, and a video so profoundly pointless that it defies description... just a few of the strange and bizarre sights to be seen in the time-wasting pantheon that is The Internet. Check 'em out.

Ye Olde Bulletproof Glass:
This may be the most stunning (and ill-advised) display of marital trust I've ever seen. This 1930s-era clip shows a man firing a rifle... again, and again, and again... at some bulletproof glass that his wife is helpfully holding in front of her face.

Panda Assaults Peace Prize(??)
One of the strangest stories of the week was the news that China was furious over the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to democracy activist Liu Xiaobo, who is currently imprisoned in China for "sedition." China even established its own "peace prize" to counter the Nobel and demanded that other countries boycott the ceremonies.

And then Taiwanese news animators jumped into the fray, bringing angry pandas with them. Wow.

Cotton Candy Machine Of Death:
A Seattle food blogger was happy to share his MacGyver-esque plans for a do-it-yourself cotton candy, which features a re-purposed blender and a propane torch that brings the entire contraption up to 4,000 degrees. I guess cotton candy tastes all the sweeter when you've braved a few levels of hell to taste it.

A bulldog puppy encounters a doorstop for the first time. In the epic battle, one of them establishes dominance. Guess who:

This Video Will Dropkick Your IQ In The Face At Least Three Times:
What happens when you combine too much free time, a year's supply of Mountain Dew, and rice? I'm still not sure. If your eardrums survive the ordeal, you might find it funny. Maybe. Maaaaybe.

Behold, Extreme Rice.
