Hen Adoption

Animal Place, the farmed animal sanctuary that rescued 3000 egg-laying hens last fall, is stepping in to save up to 1800 more hens from a Chico egg farm that is going out of business.

This time they have assistance from the Sacramento SPCA; however, the groups can only accomplish this feat if people are willing to adopt these clucky girls! These are all sassy red hens only 8-12 months old.

Unfortunately the usual outcome for egg-laying hens in factory farms is death by gas. Even though they have many years of life ahead of them, once their egg production slows down, at 12-18 months, hens are killed and replaced with new ones. In the last three years Animal Place has rescued more than 12,000 former egg-laying hens, and placed most in adoptive homes throughout California and even Oregon and Washington.
