Winter Storm Warning For Most Of North Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Winter Storm Warning Remains in Effect from 6pm Sunday thru 6pm Monday.
The timing of the event remains pretty much the same. Cold rain will be with us during the day as temperatures slowly cool. There could even be a few isolated thunderstorms during the day.
Roads are wet and driving home from church I already saw an accident. Obviously, not from ice, but from wet roads so be careful.
Temperatures will drop below freezing later this evening and overnight. In the immediate Dallas/Fort Worth area I would expect temps to drop below freezing sometime between 8pm and 2am. That earlier time frame for areas on the western side of the metroplex and the later time to the east.
Precipitation will be primarily freezing rain and sleet during the overnight hours.
MONDAY
Before daybreak is when I expect the precipitation to intensify in the form of sleet. Thundersleet still looks possible with those areas underneath the thundersleet storms seeing the most accumulation.
My concern for higher accumulation from a couple of days ago is still there. I would not be surprised to see some areas seeing 1" to 2" of sleet accumulation. Will that be in the Metro area? Tough call, as the thundersleet storms may develop just to the north, but it will be very close.
Precipitation will likely continue thru the day on Monday before tapering off in the evening on Monday. Still a chance of a few snow showers mixed in with the sleet late in the day, but primary precip type still looks to be sleet. Temperatures will stay in the upper 20s all day Monday.
TUESDAY
Temperatures in the 20s in the morning guarantee travel issues for Tuesday morning. There still could be a few light freezing drizzle areas and sleet even Tuesday morning.
Temperatures may climb above freezing briefly Tuesday afternoon for some melting, but probably not much.
With temperatures dropping below freezing again Tuesday night, more travel issues will be possible Wednesday morning.
BOTTOM LINE:
This does look like a high impact event in terms of very poor travel or impossible travel in many areas. The possibility is there for power outages, but if the primary precip is sleet, may not have huge number of power outages. If the precip were to be more freezing rain, then we would have significant power outage issues.
Finish up any last minute preparations during the day here on Sunday.
