BATON ROUGE, La. (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — A roadway was shut down as authorities tried to wrangled cows that had escaped from a trailer following a crash in Louisiana.

Media outlets in Baton Rouge reported that both southbound lanes of Airline Highway were closed at Sherwood Commons on Tuesday after a cow trailer overturned. The cows escaped the trailer, roaming onto the roadway.

Multiple agencies worked to corral the cows, which were shown running down the highway in videos posted on social media. Police even called in professional cowboys to help.

Phil Savoy, with the Ascension Parish Wranglers, explained that it took a while to capture the cows. "Well, they were stretched out about three to four miles behind these businesses. And with all the traffic and all… so, it took a while to get 'em."

The wranglers came with dogs to help sniff the cows out of their hiding spots.

In all, it took about an hour and a half to round up the cattle.
