Visitor's Guide To Dallas Museum Of Art

www.dma.orgThe Dallas Museum of Art is a major national museum, and is on the edge of the Dallas arts district. The museum has many treasures of United States art, and art from around the world. An art museum is a great place to experience art and to gain an appreciation of cultures both past and present from around the world. The Dallas Museum of Art is as good as there is anywhere. There are also special exhibits on topics like Inca cultures, Muslim art, and other treasures from ancient times to the present.
Getting There And HoursThe Dallas Museum of Art is in downtown Dallas on the edge of the arts district, along Woodall Rodgers Freeway between St. Paul and Hardwood Streets.
The museum is open 11 a. m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and closed on Monday. On Thursdays, hours are extended to 9 p.m.
AdmissionSince 2013 admission has been free, and there is free parking available across the street. Free admission is to the general area and to most exhibits. There may still be a charge for some special exhibits, and that is usually between $10 and $15. You may also become a friend of the museum by signing up for this free program, which will keep you in the know about anything going on at the museum.

ToursThere are 23,000 works of art, spanning 5,000 years, on display, not counting special exhibits. It is more than you could explore even in a few days, so it is best to take it in small pieces. There are smart phone aps to use as a guide, or self guided tours. There are also docent guided tours of the highlights at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Shopping And EatingThe Dallas Museum of art has an extensive gift shop with many books about art itself from around the world, and about the museum itself. There area also items for kids, as well as jewelry, textiles and prints available so you may take a piece of art with you after your visit.

The museum's cafe is near the north entrance, and has a casual fare menu. The cafe can take care of a few people or a few hundred during lunch. Sometimes menu items are influenced by the exhibits, so you might see an Asian dish if there is an Asian exhibit going on. There is also a good selection of beer and wines to go with your meal. The cafe can seat parties of two or a group of twenty, and can accommodate up to two hundred guests during lunch. The cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Social media, technology and the internet continue are drastically changing our perceptions of self and even our understanding of ourselves. The Dallas Museum Of Art has been exploring that with this running exhibit since April. With a couple months left, artwork and displays by artist Ed Atkins will be the next to be featured, beginning in early October.

"N S Harsha: Sprouts, Reach In To Reach Out"

Harsha offers a taste and glimpse into Indian culture through wall art inspired by Indian miniature painting. His work has been shown all over the world.
