WASHINGTON (AP) -- Attorney General Loretta Lynch is urging governors to make it easier for prisoners to obtain state-issued identification upon their release.

The request is part of a broader plan being announced Monday to help smooth the path for state and federal prisoners who are preparing to re-enter society.

As part of the same initiative, Lynch has directed the federal Bureau of Prisons to prepare an individualized re-entry plan for every inmate. She also says the agency is reviewing its education and life skills programs to ensure that they're meeting the needs of inmates.

The plan is being announced in Philadelphia on Monday at the start of National Re-Entry Week.

The Justice Department says more than 600,000 people return to society each year after being released from state and federal prisons.
