WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) – Three days ago, a female pug-mix was found wandering a ranch property in blistering heat with an engorged tongue, swollen because it had been pulled out and clinched between its jaws. Its snout was secured shut with packing tape.

But on Friday, Parker County authorities send word: Hope has a new home.

Charlie and Kit Moncrief, who owned the property where the dog was found, have taken the animal in.

"I have known the Moncrief family for many, many years," Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a prepared statement. "I can't think of a better family for Hope to belong to. She will think she is in heaven at her new home with her new family."

After it was found, veterinarians worked diligently to return the dog to health. Support poured in from all over the country and beyond –– Parker County says it even got calls from London. Through all of the pain and torment, Hope has remained kind to humans and "has showed no signs of withdrawing from people due to her torture."

More than $3,000 was donated to help the dog with its care and two rewards were issued for the suspect or suspects responsible for the crime; one for $25,000 and another for $10,000.

The entire cost of the dog's care was covered by donations, Fowler said.

Anyone with information about who may be responsible for the dog's torture is asked to call 817.599.5555. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

"This is the bottom line…" Fowler said in a release. "If they will torture a defenseless creature, what else are they capable of? We need to find the person responsible for this."
