FORT WORTH (CBS11) - Thieves destroying and stealing holiday yard decorations in west Fort Worth seem to want homeowners to know what they've done right away as they ring the doorbell.

It adds insult to injury for victims like Debbie Dickinson who lives off of Westpoint Blvd.

"We sat back and looked at it the night before," she said of the display of lights they'd just completed. "And we were taking great pleasure in all of his hard work and what we had done."

It took days of work to create the brightly lit Christmas display. And it took seconds for thieves to vandalize it.

Surveillance video showed an extended cab pickup truck pull past the Dickinson home.

Seconds later, two people ran into the yard and began tearing down lights.

"Sure enough! Our newest decorations were missing," Debbie Dickinson said. "Three large spheres which we put on our trees. And we had tied them really tight and secure. But we could tell by the one they dropped they took a knife and sliced through the actual wiring. So, they won't even work anymore these decorations. So what's the point of stealing them if they're not even going to work?"

And just before the vandals took off, they rang the doorbell.

"They actually ran around to the front porch and ring the doorbell before they run off," Dickinson said. "It's just surprising that they would actually ring the doorbell just, like, they want you to know. Like they are challenging you. It's very frustrating it really is."

Two other homeowners reported the same type of theft to police. And at least one of those homeowners reports hearing the doorbell, too.

They took decorations and left homeowners with one big question for the thieves.

"I don't understand why you would want to do that during the holidays and ruin it for people," Dickinson said. "My kids are pretty disappointed about it. Why? Why would you want to do this?"
