Tasha's To Do List: April 2-5
KRLD -- If you're looking to get outside this weekend, we've got some ideas. And for the fanatic that wants to watch movies all day long -- read on!
-- Thursday at the Dallas Zoo, you can see a collection of animals that lived waaaaaay back in the day. The new Giants of the Jurassic exhibit features more than 20 roaring, animatronic dinosaurs, plus a world-renowned interactive theater puppet experience. Check out a life-size T-Rex, Stegosaurus and baby, and a bunch of other things I cannot pronounce.
-- We watched him get pumped up; we watched him on Wayne's World; and we watched him talk about Satan. Thursday, we can see all these things in the flesh. Check out A Special Evening: Dana Carvey at the Meyerson Symphony Center Thursday night.
-- There is nothing like a good movie to shut out the stress of life, and Thursday night at the Granada, you can take in two great films from back in the day. See "Bladerunner" and "Scarface."
-- Over at the Cotton Bowl, you can check out The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup this weekend -- the biggest youth soccer tournament in the United States and what some describe as one of the most competitive in the world.
-- This weekend marks Dark Hour's next unique performance, SPRING FEVER. It's all about the zombie apocalypse. Of the 8 shows produced at Dark Hour, SPRING FEVER is the most intense.
-- Vin Diesel says "Fast & Furious 7" is going to win an Academy Award. I don't know about that, but I do know that if you are a Fast and Furious fan, you can spend the day Saturday reliving each movie. See the Fast and Furious Marathon at Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson.
-- You want to see something cooler than cool? No problem. Thursday through April 18, you can see The National Cutting Horse Association Super Stakes at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. It is a pretty big deal in that when all is said and done, the best of the best will have received a total of $2.8 million. Don't know what Cutting Horses are? How long have you been in Texas? They are typically American Quarter Horses with an instinct for "cutting" a cow from a herd and keeping it from returning to the herd for a certain period of time. What makes it so cool is that the rider doesn't do anything. The horse does everything on its own.
-- In Fort Worth, you can see Chicago. Not the city. The musical. Check it out at Bass Hall (4/3-4) Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.
-- Get all artsy this weekend at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. Six blocks of Main Street will become a street festival featuring 200 visual artists, 100 original bands, and come Sunday, a pet parade.
-- Time to fill up on Ale and turkey legs, ya'll. Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie returns this weekend and runs through May 25.Check out a Renaissance village with its own monarchy, knights, villagers, fire jugglers, jousters, and sword fighters. They even keep it new each weekend with different themes like the Royal Ale Festival and Legends of the Seas.
-- Operation Kindness is gearing up for Easter with a special Easter weekend adoption opportunity. All you have to do Friday through Sunday is select a candy-filled egg from the Operation Kindness Easter basket for a chance to receive a free adoption fee or one of two 25% off adoption coupons. Operation Kindness is the original and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas.
-- These guys are the next best thing to seeing AC/DC in concert. Check out Back In Black Saturday night at Rock 101 Grill in Little Elm.
-- This is just what you need to start the weekend. An all-out, headbanger session. Check out Dallas' own Drowning Pool Friday night at Trees.
-- I know these guys get a lot of flak, but I like them. I just listen to their stuff prior to 2006. See Nickelback Friday night at Gexa Energy Pavilion.
