DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Multiple police cruisers chased a suspected shoplifter through the streets of Dallas Thursday afternoon.

It all started in Mesquite after Daniel Sanchez 45, of Dallas allegedly fought with a loss prevention officer at the Target on 1629 Town East Blvd. The officer succeeded in recovering the merchandise during the assault but he sustained injuries requiring medical attention.

Sanchez fled in a gray Ford F-150 truck with two passengers as police approached. Officers saw his truck in the area of Brazoria and Galloway at 5:52 pm.

Officers attempted a traffic stop but Sanchez refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

It winded through a neighborhood running red lights and at times driving into oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road.

After police pursued Sanchez for 33 minutes he slowed in the area of Lombardy in Dallas, and one passenger jumped from the truck and was taken into custody. He was identified as Marlon Alberto Duran, 36.

Dallas County Sheriff's deputies led the pursuit, which continued even after the suspect blew out a tire.

Sanchez continued to run from officers for another 31 minutes.

He eventually ran out of gas and stopped at La Prada and Oates in Mesquite where police arrested him.

"They took the guy out of the truck and the police were very gentle with him," described one witness. "And they had him facedown and handcuffed him in the middle of the street and they sat him on the sidewalk."

Sanchez s charged with robbery and evading arrest motor vehicle. Duran is charged with a single outstanding warrant.
