State Fair Of Texas Opens For 24-Day Run At Fair Park

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The State Fair of Texas has begun a 24-day run including food, football and fun for the crowds.

The gates opened Friday at Fair Park in Dallas with the theme "Passport to Texas."

One new attraction is the Lone Star Horse Spectacular, offering the history of Texas through horses, flags and music.

Some concession stands will take part in Thrifty Thursdays, with signature items at reduced costs.

Fletcher's Corny Dogs has taken a vegetarian twist, with a veggie version of the popular food-on-a-stick, in addition to traditional meat corny dogs.

Fried carrot cake and a bacon-flavored cocktail are award-winning new delicacies.

Prairie View A&M takes on Grambling State on Saturday in football at the Cotton Bowl. It's Oklahoma vs. Texas on Saturday, October 10.

The fair runs through October 18.
