SPCA: Begin Searching Now For Any Missing Pets
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – For those whose pets are missing following Tuesday's violent weather, the time to begin looking for them is now.
SPCA President James Bias says residents who have lost their pets should call area shelters and notify veterinary clinics. Chances are better the pets will be found if they're microchipped or have tags.
Pets are especially adept at reacting during severe weather, Bias says. That goes doubly for cats, which are remarkable in their ability to find hiding spots.
"They tend to sense when these storms are coming in much sooner than we are," Bias said. "We know after Katrina hit in Louisiana that there were many weeks that had gone by that people were finding their pets."
He says indoor-only animals like declawed cats may be defenseless against predators like coyotes.
So Bias advises not letting much time pass before going back to damaged residences.
Currently, Fort Worth is housing seven dogs from Kennedale. Officials are taking photographs of the animals, which are posted here.
