Reno Standoff Ends With Police Killing Armed Suspect

RENO (CBSDFW.COM) - A standoff in Parker County turned deadly on Thursday night when police officers shot and killed the armed suspect. The situation started at around 7:15 p.m. when authorities from the Reno Police Department were called to a home in the 100 block of West Reno Road in regards to shots being fired.

According to officials with the Reno Fire Department, a suspect inside of the home was shooting in an unknown direction. The man was identified as 32-year-old Ronnie Lee Padron. He had barricaded himself inside of the house. Police explained that he had an active warrant for his arrest, but refused to surrender.

Danie Huffman with the Parker County Sheriff's Office stated that, on at least two separate occasions, Padron fired a gun from the home. Law enforcement officials attempted to drive the suspect out of the building in hopes of a peaceful surrender.

However, authorities said, Padron instead exited the house from the rear with a long-barreled rifle pointed at officers. He was shot multiple times, bringing the hours-long standoff to a violent end. Padron was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital, but did not survive.

Padron had a lengthy criminal history. Records show that he had faced charges of assault, burglary, criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, drug possession and more.
