Standoff In Haslet Ends; Suspect Surrenders

HASLET (CBSDFW.COM) - A standoff in Haslet ended peacefully around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.  The suspect, Jose Manuel Lomeli, Jr. surrendered to police.

Negotiators and a tactical team were on the scene, and a nearby school was placed on precautionary lockdown Tuesday morning until the situation was resolved.

The incident started when Lomeli, 44, was spotted driving.  Tarrant County deputies tried to stop him due to multiple warrants for his arrest.

He drove off and then got out of his SUV and ran into a house on Cedar Lane.

That homeowner was in a back office, and came outside advising deputies that he had weapons in the house.

According to a Tarrant County Sheriff's Department news release, negotiators made contact with suspect via a SWAT phone and began negotiating.

During the negotiations deputies proceeded to cut water and electricity to the house, as well as administer gas into the house.

Nearly 100 canisters of gas were shot into the house during negotiations.

At one point the suspect emerged into the garage area and discharged several rounds into the air, but was never a threat to an officer.

The current warrants against Lomeli are: violation of protective order, evading in a motor vehicle and stalking.

Haslet Elementary School in the Northwest Independent School District was placed under precautionary lockdown during the standoff. Authorities have not said if other homes in the neighborhood were being evacuated due to this incident.
