CARROLLTON (CBS11) - Carrollton Police have joined the ranks of law enforcement agencies using video technology in the form of body cameras.

And within the first week of using the cameras attached to officer uniforms, the department has released video recordings of a high speed pursuit that involved the recovery of a six-week-old infant.

On Saturday, officers on bicycle patrol attempted to question Gerard Perry, 23, of Dallas.

Body cam footage shows a man police identify as Perry get into a vehicle and drive away, while bicycle officers are in the car's path.

The officers were not injured, but a full scale pursuit began.

Dash camera video recorded police chasing after Perry for miles.

The suspect entered Dallas city limits and continued into the Lake Highlands area.

What officers didn't know at the time, was a six-week-old baby boy of the suspect was inside the car, riding in a car seat.

Video shows the suspect running from the car.

One officer approached the car, and found the crying infant in an unstrapped seat.

"We had no idea he was in there. I was shocked anybody would be engaged in that behavior with a child that young in the back of a car," Carrollton Police Commander Kevin McCoy said.
