Woman Dies In Fort Worth Stockyards Shooting
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators are trying to determine what fueled a violent shooting at a bar in the Fort Worth Stockyards on Sunday night. The incident happened just before 9:00 p.m. inside of the North Side Outlaws Bar, located on Northwest 25th Street. One woman was killed and four other people were injured.
Authorities are still trying to connect the details about what exactly led up to the gunfire. It is still unclear whether there were several shooters involved in this incident or just one person. In fact, one of the victims now sitting injured at the hospital could potentially be a suspect.
Police first found out about the shooting when one injured man ran to the nearby Cadillac Bar, located about a block away, to get help. He had been shot in the shoulder. Workers at that bar called 911 for help. "One of the victims ran a block away to another bar, where he was located," explained Capt. Scott Conn with the Fort Worth Police Department. "Obviously, we're concerned that we do not have a person who actually committed the shooting."
A total of five people were hurt in the shooting. Two of the victims were men in their 20s who were both in serious condition. One was transported to JPS Hospital and the other was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. A 56-year-old woman was also killed during the incident. She was later identified as Sylvia Salazar of Fort Worth. Salazar was in critical condition when authorities arrived, and later died at JPS Hospital.
According to the victim's daughter, Melanie Villarreal, Salazar arrived at the bar after attending a Fort Worth fundraiser being held in honor of a woman and child who died in a recent house fire. She came to relax at the end of the day, but wound up in the wrong place at the wrong time. She leaves behind a husband, two sons and two daughters.
Close friend Raymond Guerrero said, "She was a mother, grandmother. She loved her family."
Guerrero had just seen Salazar at a benefit for the victims of a deadly house fire.
"She was serving food to everybody and helping. She was a real good person she was taken care of her husband who has been sick also," he said.
The North Side Outlaws Bar remains closed after the shooting. Owners are not sure when the location will open again. The following message was posted to the bar's Facebook page this morning:
"My deepest and most sincere sympathy and condolences to our customers and their families for Sundays horrific tragedy. We still can't fathom why these 3 spineless s.o.b's targeted this bar. While there are no words or actions to console anyone please know that each and every one of y'all is in our prayers. If anyone has any information please contact the detectives and help us put these cowards away!!!"
