Member Of 'Swatting' Ring Gets 5-Year Prison Term

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — A 34-year-old Omaha, Nebraska, man was sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a "swatting" ring that made fake 911 calls to draw special weapons and tactics officers to hoax situations.
Jason Allen Neff was sentenced in Dallas on Friday after he pleaded guilty last summer to computer-related conspiracy and retaliation counts. U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay also ordered Neff to pay $79,440 in restitution.
Six other people have been convicted and sentenced to prison over bogus emergency calls that sent SWAT law enforcement teams on fake calls to various locations.
Neff was arrested in 2011 in Jackson, Missouri, and had remained in custody ever since.
