Truck Slams Into, Kills Baby Boy In Stroller

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- An infant being pushed in a stroller was killed and his father injured when a car struck the two in Arlington on Thursday morning.
According to witnesses, father Daniel Bingenheimer had just left an area convenience store and was pushing his son David in a stroller, at the intersection of California and Cooper.
Witnesses say a car ran a red light and hit the back of a pickup. According to police the truck, which was headed southbound on Cooper, went off the road and struck the father and seven-and-a-half month old boy. The stroller the child was in shattered into pieces.
"The dad was just screaming and the drivers were screaming," says Alicia Hopkin, who witnessed the crash. "[The father] picked the baby up out of the road and brought it over, and somebody helped him lay him on the median. They were all just screaming."
As witnesses tried to help, father Daniel Bingenheimer called his wife, who is seven-months pregnant. The family stays in a hotel just a few blocks from the crash scene. Friends say the frightened woman literally ran to the scene, but when she arrived and saw her son could barely stand. The devastated mom had to be taken from the scene by ambulance.
Little David Bingenheimer was declared dead at the scene.
Infant Killed, Father Injured In Arlington Crash
Mellody Jackson is a friend of the family and was on the phone with the mother just after the crash. "I was really just in shock. I was like, 'What? David is dead!' She [mother] then proceeded to tell me the full story. She was just really short, she couldn't really get her words out."
The father was taken to a local hospital. The driver of one of the cars was also taken to the hospital.
Witnesses say the dad regularly walked his son in the area. Investigators are still trying to determine which driver was a fault.
