Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in North Texas

FORT WORTH, TX (CBSDFW.COM) — September 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month. The month-long celebration spans 30 days from September 15th until October 15th. It is an opportunity to recognize, celebrate and learn more about community culture. As such, here are a few events and things to do in North Texas this month. 

AT&T Showcase Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 - October 23

AT&T Discovery District

This exhibit features colorful ancient MesoAmerican-inspired artwork by Armando Sebastian that explores themes identity and gender reminiscent of Mexican folk art.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden

Hosted by the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and Botanical Research Institute of Texas, guests will be able to attend various events throughout the month that showcases the culture and history of Hispanic Heritage. See the full line-up on their webpage.

Fort Worth Public Library Programming

Various Dates and locations

The Fort Worth Public Library is hosting various events throughout the month with activities like Loteria (bingo), creating paper flowers, and other crafts.

Tejano Music Fiesta Series: Selena Forever

Thursday, September 15 | 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

The Stage at Grandscape

5752 Grandscape Blvd, The Colony, TX 75056

The first event in the Tejano Music Fiesta Series being held at the stage in Grandscape. Featuring tributes to singer Selena Quintanilla.  

Hispanic Heritage Celebration in Sundance Square

September 16 - October 16 (weekends)

Live Music and Dance featuring Latin rhythms: Regional Mexicano, Latin pop, Tejano, Banda, Salsa, Cumbia, Tango, Samba, Merengue, Reggaetón, Flamenco, Paso doble.

Friday, September 16 | 5:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Latino Cultural Center

Hosted by the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts, there will be vendors, food, drink, music, and dancing.


Latinidad Festival

Saturday, September 17 | 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Strauss Square

Presented by the AT&T Performing Arts Center and Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, this event is free. Enjoy authentic cuisine and shop local vendors.


Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Saturday, September 17 | 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Levitt Pavilion Arlington

100 W Abram St, Arlington, TX

Hosted by Mayor's Latino Advisory Council, there will be vendors, food trucks, and music featuring a free concert from Sunny Sauceda.

 

Latino Heritage Festival

Saturday, September 17 | 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. (Gates open at 5:00 p.m.)

DeSoto Amphitheater

211 E. Pleasant Run Road, Desoto, TX

Enjoy the sounds of local and national Latin recording artists. Bring your lawn chairs and prepare for an evening full of live music, great food, a variety of vendors, and fun for the entire family.

 

Fort Worth Fiestas Patrias Kick-off Celebration

Sunday, September 18 | First event begins at 11:00 a.m.

Fort Worth Stockyards

This kick-off celebration has various events throughout the day, including live music, ballet folklorico, cattle drives, the traditional 'Grito de Independencia', and a parade. You can find the schedule here.


Mexico en la Sangre - Mexico Rodeo

Mexico En La Sangre with PBR are collaborating in the heart of Texas to celebrate Mexican Heritage. The Mexican "showdeo", Mexico En La Sangre, will combine charreria, caballos bailadores, and live music. General Admission $35


Festival de la Independencia de México

Sunday, September 18 | 1:00pm - 9:00 p.m. 

La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth

4200 South Fwy, Fort Worth, TX 76115

The Mexican Consulate in Dallas and La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth will commemorate Mexico's Independence Day on September 18th 2022. This event will display local, cultural, and professional organizations, live entertainment and the traditional "El Grito" that will be heard across the DFW Metroplex. More information here.


Movies That Matter Latino

Movies That Matter Latino is a quarterly film series that celebrates Latino culture and diversity. The event shows a film followed by a moderated discussion and is completely free. This is a collaboration between the City of Fort Worth and Artes de la Rosa.

Outdoor theatre by Cara Mía Theatre including stilt walkers and break dancers. There will also be live cumbia for dancing, free food, and drinks.

Artes de la Rosa

Learn about the Artes de la Rosa cultural center in Fort Worth, and paint bricks for a Day of the Dead altar to be placed at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. RSVP for this free event here.

Hispanic Heritage Festival

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center

Hosted by the City of Dallas, this is a live, in-person community festival event and is free to attend. There will be live entertainment, vendors and free activities for children.

Frida Fest

Saturday, October 1 | 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Sundance Square, Fort Worth, TX

The event is to celebrate the accomplishments of Frida Kahlo, as well as highlight the internal spirit of Frida that everyone has. This free event will feature artists, musicians and crafts market.
