Hamilton Named MLB's AL Player Of The Month

Chicago White Sox v Texas Rangers

NEW YORK (Sports Network) - Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was named American League Player of the Month for April.

Hamilton batted .395 while leading the league with nine home runs and 25 RBI to earn his fourth career monthly award. His nine homers in the month matched a team record for April held by Ivan Rodriguez in 2000, Alex Rodriguez in 2002, Carl Everett in 2003 and Ian Kinsler in 2007.

The 30-year-old hit safely in 13 of his first 14 games and 19 off 22 overall in the month while recording four straight multi-hit games.

He also added his career high-tying five RBI performance in an 18-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on April 17.

Other players considered for the award were Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, Blue Jays infielder and DH Edwin Encarnacion, Twins outfielder Josh Willingham and Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
