Dallas Komen Race Gets Less Online Money
DALLAS (AP) - The Susan G. Komen for the Cure's signature walk has drawn fewer online signups and donations than last year in the foundation's hometown.
Komen was thrust into the national debate over abortion when it announced in January that it would stop funding Planned Parenthood. The decision was reversed after an onslaught of criticism.
Komen -- based in Dallas -- held its local Race for the Cure Saturday. The Dallas Morning News reports that online donations had only reached 41 percent of this year's goal of $2.71 million. About 19,000 participants signed up online, a figure that would be short of last year's 24,500.
Komen Dallas County executive director Jennifer Legere says final fundraising and participant totals won't be available for another week.
