Cowboys Owner Likens Murray To Eric Dickerson

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, a third round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and a rising star on the team, has proven to be a sensational talent in the backfield since the absence injured feature back Felix Jones.

Tuesday morning, Cowboys GM/Owner Jerry Jones joined me on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas where he said Murray reminded him of one specific Hall of Fame running back.

"He kind of has a glide like Dickerson [Eric, 1983-87] for the Rams and SMU," Jones said. "He has a certain smoothness. He's running with such acceleration and power. He's a 220-25 pound back who runs with more power and impact than his weight."

More importantly, though, Jones addressed the question on most of his critic's minds: Who will get the starting gig between Murray and Felix Jones, once Jones returns from an ankle injury?

"It's not pertinent," he said, adding, "I don't know of anyone that knows what a running back looks like anymore so than Barry Switzer. Barry gave us good information regarding [former OU running back] Murray."

Jones was also quick to laud another Cowboys' selection from the 2011 NFL draft class—former USC offensive lineman Tyron Smith, saying, "He has a huge work ethic. That's one thing that every coach and teammate will say about him."

Wide receiver Miles Austin and linebacker Sean Lee have been dealing with their own respective injuries--hamstring issues and a dislocated wrist.

Austin injured his right hamstring during the second quarter against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, without returning, adding to his series of frustrating hamstring problems already this season. Lee missed the game against Seattle with a dislocated left wrist and is steadfast on trying to practice this week with a hard cast.

Jones said, "I'm concerned now that Miles won't be back until after Thanksgiving. We'll see how that goes." He followed with, "Sean Lee, we'll see how he practices this week and if he does practice."

The (4-4) Cowboys host the (5-3) Buffalo Bills at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday.
