SANGER (CBSDFW.COM) - Country superstar Randy Travis is in trouble for allegedly being drunk in public.

Sanger police arrested Travis early Monday morning and charged him with public intoxication.

Sanger Police Chief Curtis Amyx said an officer first noticed a suspicious car. "At 12:04 a.m. a Sanger officer drove up to 708 S. 5th Street, which is the First Baptist Church, and he noticed a vehicle parked in the parking lot."

Travis was the only person inside the vehicle and reportedly had slurred speech. Chief Amyx said the officer then, "Noticed an open bottle of wine in the passenger side of the vehicle."

The 52-year-old singer was booked in the Denton County Jail and has since been released.

Travis, who lives in nearby Tioga, is one of the biggest names in country music.

Police said they aren't sure how the singer got to the church, but that there was no evidence of drunk driving.
