Carroll High Students Mourn The Death Of Two Classmates
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – As they returned to class at Southlake Carroll High School from winter break, several students wore purple to remember two classmates who died from a suspected drug overdose. Grief counselors were on campus to talk with students and will remain there throughout the week.
Seniors Kyle McNutt, 17, and Chase Nunez, 18, were found dead in a home on January 5, after ingesting illegal narcotics, according to Grapevine Police. Cullen Marino, 22, was arrested at the scene, and is charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Police say when Marino found McNutt and Nunez unresponsive, but did not call for help.
Kyle McNutt's family released the following statement regarding his death:
"This is a very difficult time for us as we deal with the shock of Kyle's death. We cannot imagine a life without him, and we will miss him every single day of our lives. On behalf of our entire family, we would like to thank this community for every act of sympathy and love shown to us. We do ask the public to please respect our family's privacy as we mourn the loss of our son."
Private service will be held for McNutt's close friends and family. His family is asking that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of North Texas or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, to honor McNutt's love for animals.
Services for Chase Nunez have been set for Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m. at White's Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake. His visitation will be held January 11, from 4-7 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville. Nunez was a member of the Southlake Carroll Lacrosse Association and his family is asking for donations be made in his memory to that group, instead of flowers.
His family released the following statement mourning his death:
"Our immediate and extended family was devastated to hear the news of Chase's death. As parents we are heartbroken and at a loss for words to express our grief. We appreciate the prayers, support and acts of kindness shown to our family during this difficult time. We want our son to be remembered for all the many happy moments shared by family and friends."
