As one of the most scenic state parks near DFW, Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers an ideal backdrop for any bonfire gathering. Whether you choose the Isle du Bois Unit on the southern shore of the lake or the Johnson Branch Unit along the northern shore, you'll find plenty of fire rings and fire pits to flame up the night. All you need to bring is the wood and the s'mores. You'll also find an assortment of things to do before the sun goes down — from hiking and biking to boating, fishing and building castles on the beach. Entrance to the park is $7 each for everyone over 13. You can make a night of it by reserving a campsite for $15 to $26.

If you're going to pick a spot to hang out for a bonfire, it can't get any better than at Grapevine Lake where you'll find nightly firework shows all summer through Labor Day. Before the sun goes down, you'll find an array of activities, from boating and water skiing to fishing, hiking and horseback riding. If you don't plan on camping, the 286-acre Meadowmere Park is one of the only parks on the lake providing day-use sites equipped with fire rings for a bonfire. If you should decide to sleepover, check out the park's rent-a-tent program and let the staff take care of everything but the cooking. Entrance to the park is $5 for cars and motorcycles, or just $1 for walk-ins.

With 29,000 acres of water and 233 miles of shoreline, Lake Lewisville provides endless opportunities for family fun. There are around 15 parks surrounding the lake, including Willow Grove Park, offering stunning scenery and a wide variety of activities. Along with hiking trails and water sports, there are volleyball courts, a baseball field, a fishing pier and plenty of fire pits perfect for getting an awesome bonfire party going. You can come by the car load for only $2 per vehicle and hang out until midnight, or camp out along the waterfront for $11 to $20.

Geo-caching, hiking, rock climbing and swimming in the clear spring-fed waters of Cedar Lake are just a few of the ways you can spend your time in this spectacular 528-acre state park. With so many attractions, it's worth staying over for the night. Campers will find seven different spacious camping areas, ranging from full hook-ups and screened-in shelters to primitive campsites and several group facilities. All of the camping areas come complete with grills, picnic tables and campfire rings perfect for those evening gatherings around a roaring fire. Entrance fees are $5 for everyone over age 13, campsite rentals start at $16 and deluxe group facilities start at $200 nightly.

Around 50 miles from the Dallas area, this 376-acre park is a popular spot for those seeking to connect with nature without traveling too far from home. The park offers great fishing, boating, hiking-biking trails and plenty of sandy beaches. There's also a great selection of camping sites equipped with fire rings, which is exactly what you'll need for getting your bonfire night a glowing. Sure, the park is well known for its giant spiders, or more specifically, giant spider webs. But don't worry, the webs are long gone, and if not, that toasty fire will take care of anything that may crawl your way. There is a $5 admission fee for everyone over 13. Campsite fees range from $20 to $42 nightly.
