Best Irish Pubs Around Dallas

It's not easy being green in Texas, what with hearty Germanic influence throughout the state. That isn't to say there is a dearth of three-leaf clovers and Guinness and rosy-cheeked Irishman. Oh, they're here and they've got the establishments to show for it. However, the strict definition of an Irish pub takes a more fluid bent in the Dallas area. Read for yourself. Some are listed below.

Blackfriar Pub
2621 McKinney Ave.
Dallas, TX 75204
Hours: Mon – Fri 3 pm – 2 am; Sat – Sun 12 pm – 2 am

Beer can lead to religious experiences. Spend time at this Uptown bar, operated out of a house, where the front yard has been converted into a beer-drinker's open-air respite. The woodwork was pulled from an English castle. Carved prayer panels and ceiling along with a Gothic arch further adorn the interior. Tex-Mex plates share table space with traditional Irish dishes and sandwiches. In other words, meat pies dance a jig with chipotle chicken.

Dubliner Irish Pub
2818 Greenville Ave.
Dallas, TX 75206
Hours: Mon – Fri 4 pm – 2 am; Sat 2 pm – 2 am; Sun 1 pm – 2 am

Straightaway, the warm embraces of brogues and stouts are implied in this watering hole's name. It does, if referring to Dublin native Peter Kenny, the Lower Greenville bar's proprietor, notable for welcoming all, taking care of all and stocking a mean shelf rattling with Scotch and Irish whiskies. Guinness happily shares draught space with fellow countrymen Harp, and Smithwick's as well as frenemies Bass and Strongbow. Myriad American craft beers and well-curated international selection are also available for order along with the signature corned-beef Reuben.

The Fillmore Pub
1004 E 15th St.
Plano, TX 75074
Hours: Mon 4 pm – 2 am; Tue – Fri 11 am – 2 am; Sat – Sun 10:30 am – 2 am

It's as Irish as it gets in Downtown Plano. The trappings are there—Hello, Guinness sign! Hello, dark wood!—but from there things get murky. The beer list is a web of international playboy tipples (including the standard Anglo-Irish lot). Fish and chips (with cod, not haddock!) make an appearance and are a crowd favorite at this neighborhood joint, where straight-laced suits mingle with college kids.

McSwiggan's Irish Pub
6910 Windhaven Parkway, Suite 105
The Colony, TX
Hours: Mon – Fri 11 am – 2 am; Sat 10 am – 2 am; Sun 10 am – 2 am

By dint of being the self-proclaimed "Unofficial Boston Pub of Dallas" alone, McSwiggan's racks up beaucoup Gaelic drinking spot points. Moreover, it hosts a New England Patriots club. The Irish breakfast and New England clam chowder further authenticate this outlier. A family-friend atmosphere and cheap prices for the whiskey and beer take McSwiggan's to the end zone.

10/12 Food & Drink - Irish Pubs - Trinity Hall

Trinity Hall Irish Pub
5321 E. Mockingbird Ln., Ste. 250
Dallas, TX 75206
Hours: Daily, 11 am – 1:30 am

The food and whiskey at this Mockingbird Station pub are essentially Irish. The same goes for the regular live musical acts. Then there's the beer. The suds number well into the dozens on tap across the styles and passports. A seat at the right end of the 32-foot mahogany bar earns a customer full view of prime Texas craft beer. The excellent selection is matched by the service, regardless if seated on the front patio or an intimate nook. Don't be surprised if a server correctly guesses your order. (It happens!) On game day (soccer or rugby), owner Marius Donnelly's joint gets packed with raucous futbol fans. Trinity Hall is an official Major League Soccer pub.
