DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two new polls show Newt Gingrich is running third place in a state that he needs to win badly -- Alabama.

Voters go to the polls on Tuesday in Alabama and Mississippi. Political analysts say Gingrich needs to win both of these southern states if he wants to show that his candidacy is still viable.

In an Alabama state survey, Rick Santorum leads with 23 percent. Mitt Romney is second with 19 percent. Gingrich is third with 14 percent. The pollsters did not ask about Ron Paul's support.

In another poll by the Alabama Education Association, Romney leads with 31 percent. Santorum has 22 percent, Gingrich has 21 percent and Paul has just six percent. Twenty percent said that they were undecided.

Gingrich won his home state of Georgia during Super Tuesday, but did not carry any other state. He has vowed to stay in the race until the end.
