Speculating on the next Red Wings head coach is a little like speculating on the next Democratic nominee for president.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired Mike Babcock as their new head coach.
During the 2013 season, Babcock surpassed both Scotty Bowman and Jack Adams as the winningest coach in the storied franchise's history.
It's being reported the Sabres are opening their wallet to Babcock, reportedly offering him in the range of $5 million per season.
In an interview Friday with TSN, Babcock said the decision could come as early as Wednesday.
"Bridges are kind of big and powerful like my dad, so it's kind of fitting in that way," Gordie Howe's son Murray said in a phone interview.
Babcock has been linked to numerous teams and reportedly has met with several, and the process is expected to continue in Prague.

According to Nick Kypreos of SportsNet, Babcock met with the Toronto Maple Leafs over the weekend to discuss their open head coach position.
Detroit held exclusive negotiating rights with Babcock through June, but Holland said he and Babcock will not let the process drag out.

"We're only going to get better," Holland said. "One of the ways we're going to get better is our players are going to compete."
"The worst day I've had in coaching in Detroit, period, in my 10 years here, was yesterday, bar none," Babcock added.

Zidlicky has seven goals and 27 assists this season, including three goals and eight assists in his 21 games for Detroit.

"We went down [to Tampa] and played a really solid game," Kronwall said after the Game 6 loss. "That's what we've got to do again."
Tyler Johnson and Jason Garrison scored in the first period, and Johnson added another goal in the second to give the Lightning a 3-0 lead.
Pronovost, a native of Lac la Tortue, Quebec, made his debut for the Red Wings in the 1949-50 playoffs. He soon became a fixture on the Detroit blue line.
The Red Wings have handled the higher level of physicality better than the Lightning, and Tampa Bay needs to match that grit to score.
"Ok, if you're trying to get out the "coach is whining for penalties" that's not it at all. It's the playoffs, this stuff happens" Cooper said.
